These Manic Monday Reviews will be short and sweet. There will be basic background information, a bottle review, and will be posted irregularly; unlike the weekly Friday reviews. These reviews will focus on older or past releases, single barrel releases, bottles that were lost or forgotten on my shelf, or whenever I just want to focus on the bourbon, not the write-up. With that said, today’s review is of High West The Prisoner’s Share (Batch 23HO2).
Bottle Information
From the High West website: A distinctive blend of aged straight rye and straight bourbon whiskeys, finished in The Prisoner Red Blend wine barrels to highlight the sophisticated notes of raspberry jam, toasted mahogany, crème brûlée, black pepper, cherry cola, and French oak spice character. Decadent. Indulgent. Unforgettable.
- Distiller: Bottled by High West Distillery
- Mash Bill: Undisclosed
- Proof: 102
- Age: NAS
- Year: 2023
- MSRP: $175
- 2024 National Average: $250

With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Vanilla, Brown Sugar, Port, Rye Spice, Red Fruits (Strawberry/Cherry/Fuji Apple), and Cinnamon
- Palate: Cinnamon Red Hots, Vanilla Cream, Brown Sugar, Rye Spice, Strawberry Licorice, Red Wine or Port, and Slight Oak
- Finish: Medium to Long with Sweet Notes of Red Fruit and Rye Spice
- My Rating: Drink It!/Save It! (I have had this on my shelf for over a year and every time I go back to the bottle, it is even better than the last! I hope High West releases this expression in 2024, as I definitely will be hunting for it!)
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
