The past year was a great year for limited release bourbons and at least in NoCo many of those bottles were available at or near MSRP. Unfortunately, it seemed like these 2023 limited edition bottles were all released at MSRP in the $250 to $400 range. I promise this will not be a review that dives into a rant about the bourbon market, but if you are interested in that type of post, keep an eye out for a future rant coming your way soon! Thus, today’s review come from Ross & Squibb, also known as MGP, and is the Remus Gatsby Reserve 2023 release.

Bottle Information

From the Remus Bourbon website: How about a sip of something legendary, old sport? Remus Bourbon is proud to introduce the 2023 edition of the highly-acclaimed Remus Gatsby Reserve.

Crafted with the finest 15-year-old reserves, this ultra-limited, cask strength straight bourbon celebrates F. Scott Fitzgerald’s legendary novel, “The Great Gatsby”, a century ago – from its events in 1922 to its publication in 1925.

Legend has it, Fitzgerald’s titular character ‘Jay Gatsby’ was inspired by Remus. Some say Fitzgerald and Remus’ fortuitous 1918 meeting began the ‘drums of destiny’. Others believe Fitzgerald gathered plenty of influence from Remus’ many newspaper exposés.

Although the 2022 release was extremely hard to find in NoCo, and was an amazing gift from Mrs. Bourbon Bossman, the 2023 release seemed relatively assessable at MSRP. Overall, this was yet again another amazing annual expression I could easily sip on for hours while pondering about the meaning of life! With lingering notes of candied cherries, oak, and leather, this fifteen-year-old is definitely a monster pour that I could continue to go back to time and time again. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Brown Sugar, Dark Red Fruits (Maraschino Cherry or Plums), Vanilla, Milk Chocolate, and Oak
  • Palate: Brown Sugar, Dried Or Candy Cherry, Vanilla, Leather, Light Rye Spice, and Oak
  • Finish: Medium with Notes of Vanilla, Dry Oak, and Continued Candy Cherry
  • My Rating: Drink It!/Save It! (This is Another Amazing Annual Expression I Could Easily Sip on for Hours While Pondering About the Meaning of Life!)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
