Happy New Year all and welcome to another year with Bourbon Bossman! Here’s to another wonderful year of researching, writing about, and trying new bourbons, whiskeys, and the occasional scotch too! When I started this adventure two years ago, I never thought my writings or website would catch the eye of a national distillery. Yet today, I am honored to review a bottle offered with no strings attached from just a distillery. Thank you Heaven’s Door for noticing my writings/website and allowing me to write this review. With that, today’s review comes from the Heaven’s Door Distillery and is their newest release of Heaven’s Door Homesick Blues.
Bottle Information
From the Heaven’s Door website: Celebrate Bob Dylan’s creative spirit with our exceptional 7-year-old Minnesota Wheated Bourbon Whiskey. Crafted in Minnesota, a mere 150 miles from Dylan’s birthplace, the grains are cultivated, distilled, and aged in the heart of the North Country. This bourbon matures amidst the wild temperature swings of scorching highs at 116°F to chilling lows at -80°F, resulting in an unparalleled character. Homesick Blues stands as a testament to Bob Dylan’s lasting influence, celebrating both his Minnesota heritage and his creative impact on the world of whiskey.
With its deep and intense hue reflecting a rich, smooth character, Homesick Blues promises a satisfying experience for bourbon enthusiasts. The palate’s full-bodied, velvety texture is further enriched by the wheat component that imparts a creamy smoothness. A masterful balance of sweet and spicy elements highlights the whiskey’s unique character, shaped by diverse climates, and cements its position as an extraordinary addition to the world of spirits – a tribute to Bob Dylan’s enduring legacy.

Over the past year, several core bottles and a few limited Heaven’s Door products have become more readily available in NoCo. We have yet to see this exact bottle available in our area but I am sure we will. Overall, this was a delightful bottle, and I would easily call this a very solid daily/weekly sipper. Super sweet on both the nose and the palate, however, full of wheat notes that I would say you need to be a fan of if you are going to purchase this bottle. Nonetheless, even though I am not a huge fan of wheat whiskey, this will be a bottle I continue to sip on! With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Frosted Cornflakes, Vanilla, Brown Sugar, Strawberries, Apples, Slight Hay/Grassiness, and Oak
- Palate: Very Sweet Wheat Funk, Vanilla, Baking Spices, Fruitiness (Perhaps Strawberries/Apples Like the Nose), and Oak
- Finish: Medium to Long with Notes of Sweet Wheat and Oak
- My Rating: Drink It! (Very Solid Daily/Weekly Sipper)
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
