Being it is only a few days before Christmas and we are all probably a bit busy, this will be a quick but VERY noteworthy review. This is my first special or limited release from this distillery and it did not disappoint. Coming from the world-renowned Jack Daniel’s Distillery, today’s review is of Jack Daniel’s Twice Barreled Heritage Barrel Rye.
From the Jack Daniel’s website: The Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Special Release series highlights an annual limited innovation from the Jack Daniel Distillery and this year’s release is a twist on the original — Heritage Barrel. Twice Barreled Heritage Barrel Rye is a celebration of the whiskey-making traditions of our distillery and the barrel-making expertise of our cooperage. The 2023 Jack Daniel’s Special Release is a one-of-a-kind experience crafted from 70% rye, 18% corn, and 12% malted barley and twice barreled for a complex taste.
Since purchasing this bottle, we have seen several throughout NoCo, but unfortunately, they have all been priced at secondary market costs. Overall, this was a gem to find at MSRP, and I will forever moving forward try to find these special releases. This has a nose that reminds me of my childhood, Martinelli’s Gold Medal Sparkling Cider, and a finish like no other rye I have had. With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Vanilla, Brown Sugar, Cotton Candy, Rye Spices, Toasted Gram Crackers, and Martinelli’s Gold Medal Sparkling Cider!
- Palate: Vanilla, Brown Sugar, Toasted Oak, Dried Banana and Apple Chips, and Rye Spices
- Finish: Medium to Long with Notes of Vanilla, Butter Cream, and Rye Spice
- 2023 MSRP: $75
- 2023 National Average: $299
- Proof: 100
- My Rating: Save It! (This was my first Jack Daniel’s Special Release, but will not be my last!)
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
