I will be the first to admit that I have never been a fan of rum or rum-flavored products. However, I am a fan of Bardstown products and do like the flavors that rum can provide as a secondary trait. Thus, when I heard about the collaboration between Bardstown Bourbon Company and Foursquare Rum Distillery, I was quite excited. Today’s bottle comes from the Bardstown Bourbon Company and is their Bardstown Bourbon Company Collaborative Series Foursquare.

From the Bardstown Bourbon Company website: Like Bardstown Bourbon Company, Foursquare is defined by innovation and transparency throughout their production process. Enjoy this custom blend of 7 yr rye and 17 yr bourbon, designed to beautifully accentuate Barbados flavor, aged for 23 months in Foursquare rum barrels.

Over the past few months, it seems that Bardstown products are becoming increasingly harder in NoCo to come across; at least their newer products. For example, most stores still only have Bardstown Discovery Series 7 on the shelves and forget trying to find any of their Collaboration Series bottles for at least four to six months later. This bottle is now quite available in the area, although who knows how long other bottles will take to appear on shelves. With that gripe now completed, let’s focus a bit on the bottle.

Overall, this bottle was a great collaboration melding the flavors of bourbon and rum. For those that do not know, that is quite hard to do with usually the rum overpowering or causing a “funk.” Although a bit dry on the palate and finish, this provides great notes of vanilla cream and molasses. Nonetheless, I would recommend Wild Turkey Master’s Keep Voyage over this; which hurts a bit to write, being a fan of usually everything Bardstown. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Baking Spices, Vanilla, and Oak
  • Palate: Brown Sugar, Vanilla Cream, Molasses, Dark Fruits (Jam Like), Baking Spices, and Oak
  • Finish: Medium to Long with Notes of Leather, Molasses, and Dry Oak
  • 2023 MSRP: $159
  • 2023 National Average: $175
  • Proof: 107
  • My Rating: Drink It! (This was great, but I would recommend Wild Turkey Master’s Keep Voyage.)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
