Every once in a while you walk into a store, your heart skips a beat, and you see that unicorn bottle sitting on the shelf that has been on your wish list for months. Then reality kicks in and you realize the bottle is probably overpriced and today will be just depressing, but that was not the story this time! Instead, this bottle was priced at MSRP and I have the pleasure of reviewing a amazingly unique bottle from the Wild Turkey Distilling Co; Russell’s Reserve Single Rickhouse, Camp Nelson C.

From the Russell’s Reserve website: Inspired by the unique conditions of the rickhouses at the Wild Turkey Distilling Co, the Russell Family proudly introduce the Single Rickhouse collection, featuring a limited release of liquid from a single rickhouse. This collection explores the often unsung contributions specific resting places have on a whiskey’s final character, celebrating varied nuances of whiskey aging across these different environments.

The inaugural release, Russell’s Reserve Single Rickhouse from Camp Nelson C is bottled from a small batch of just 72 barrels. Aged on the optimal center cut floors 3 and 4, bottled at 112.4 barrel proof, and non-chill filtered, this rich and decadent bourbon delivers a rich, unexpected blend of flavors that captures the essence and spirit of its roots. Camp Nelson C has since been dismantled – making this unique bottling truly one of a kind.

A limited release for Wild Turkey, I have only seen this bottle in NoCo since its release. I had given up on the ability to try this unicorn, especially after all the amazing reviews it received on WhiskeyTube. Yet, the bourbon gods were shining down on me and I have the pleasure of reviewing this bottle. Overall, this bottle is now included in my top five best bottles of all time! Simple yet complex at the same time, the nose, palate, and finish meld so delicately together leaving you only wanting more. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Vanilla, Toasted/Charred Oak, Brown Sugar, Baking Spices, and Light Orange Zest
  • Palate: Vanilla Cream, Butterscotch, Werther’s Caramel Hard Candy, Baking Spices, and Oak
  • Finish: Long Colorado Winters Hug with Sweet Vanilla Cream, Baking Spice, and Dry Oak Finish
  • 2023 MSRP: $249
  • 2023 National Average: $599
  • Proof: 112.4
  • My Rating: Save It! (This is a very pricey bottle, but worth every penny of MSRP)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
