We took several months off from bourbon hunting after the Holidays to allow my shelves to clear a bit, our pocketbooks to recover, and in the hopes that our local stores would regain some new stock; and they definitely did. April and May turned out to be some great months for allocated bourbons in NoCo and I am quite excited to review several new bottles, some regular and some allocated, over this summer. One of those allocated bottles is today’s review and comes from the Angel’s Envy Distillery; 2022 Angel’s Envy Cask Strength Bourbon

From the Angel’s Envy website: Our 11th Cask Strength release has arrived. Made from some of the most distinctive barrels in our rickhouse and aged for up to 14 additional months in port wine casks, it’s one of our most popular and critically acclaimed whiskey collections. A dark amber red 119.8 proof bourbon with a creamy, indulgent flavor. Notes of caramel, brown sugar, and fruit.

Defiantly a limited-release product, as this is the only bottle, well actually a beautiful box and bottle, that I have ever seen in NoCo. Let alone, I have never seen this in any state we have hunted bourbon in over the last few years. Overall, this is amazing, and that is enough said. This is a beautiful example of a bourbon presented at cask strength with those classic brown sugar, vanilla, and dark fruit notes throughout the nose, palate, and finish. This will probably be an extremely hard bottle to find, and maybe the only one I ever see. So if you see this at a bar it is a must try at least once, even if the pour is $30. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Brown Sugar, Caramel, Vanilla, All Spice, Dark Red Fruits, and Green Apple
  • Palate: Vanilla, Brown Sugar, Sweet Red Fruit (Cherry & Strawberry), All Spice, and Raisin
  • Finish: Short to Medium with Sweet Fruit and All Spice Notes
  • 2023 MSRP: $230
  • 2023 National Average: $399
  • Proof: 119.8
  • My Rating: Save It! (This is amazing… enough said!)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
