As I have mentioned, over the past year I have focused quite a bit on introducing myself to new experiences through whiskey and scotch. I know, I know, but this is Bourbon Bossman! Well, I am a big believer that we can not grow if we are not willing to try new things. Thus, I did a lot of research before making this jump, and today’s bottle is one of the first bottles of Irish Whiskies I purchased. Funny thing, I just realized I have yet to review this bottle, even though it has been on my shelf for over a year now. So, today’s review is of Yellow Spot 12-Year Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey.
From the Spot Whisky website: Rather than being simply a ‘finished’ whiskey, Yellow Spot is special in that it contains whiskey that has been matured for a full 12 year period in three oak cask types: American bourbon barrels, Spanish sherry butts, and uniquely, Spanish Malaga casks. The Malaga cask brings an exotic sweet note to the whiskey making it a truly delightful taste experience. Only extremely limited quantities of Yellow Spot have been bottled making it a whiskey to seek out and savour as a true rarity.
Over the past year, at least in NoCo, the Spot Whiskey line-up has finally become more readily available. Overall, the Yellow Spot 12-Year Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey is by far my favorite of the lineup, with Gold Spot leading the pack. This bottle is definitely for those bourbon and whiskey enthusiasts that enjoy the sweeter side of things, along with a very pronounced fresh fruitiness. For those bourbon drinkers wanting to dabble in Irish Whiskey, this is a must-try at your local bar. With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Fresh and Sweet Fruits (Apple, White Grape, Melon, Clementine) with Additional Notes of Oak, Vanilla, and Caramel
- Palate: Apple, Grape, Sherry, Vanilla, Oak, and Slight Baking Spices
- Finish: Medium to Long Warming to Sweet Notes of Oak and Sweet Fruit
- 2023 MSRP: $109

- My Rating: Drink It!
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
