Today’s review comes from a Kentucky Distillery I am unfamiliar with and has a name that feels like it should be more to the north of NoCo, not located in the south. In late 2021, I saw this well-designed, unique bottle on the shelf during the hype of a TV Series many of us have come to love, and after reading the tasting notes on the bottle I decide “what the heck let’s do this;” and I am glad I did. From the Limestone Branch Distillery, today we are reviewing the Yellowstone Limited Edition 2021 Bourbon Whiskey Finished in French Armagnac barrels.

From the Limestone Branch Distillery website: While each release of Yellowstone Limited Edition is different, one thing always remains the same: a promise of top-shelf flavor with humble complexities. This year’s offering features a 7-year small-batch bourbon finished in French Armagnac barrels. A rustic, full-bodied brandy, Armagnac boasts notes of toffee, butterscotch, and chocolate, which complements the sweeter flavors of bourbon — especially when paired with the bold, oaky flavor of the 7-year bourbon.

as a bottle that I just happened to stumble upon during Christmas of 2021. Yes I am just getting around to reviewing this bottle and I have already found the 2022 release, but there are so many great bourbons and whiskies out there right now. Unfortunately, I only have enough spare time to review one bottle a week. This 2021 release was the only bottle I saw that year, however the 2022 release, as of a week ago, seems to still be available in many NoCo stores.

Overall, this was an excellent bottle that boasts the classic notes of bourbon with the elevated characteristics from being finished in the Armagnac barrels. This well-balanced sweet yet spicy bourbon whiskey is a must-try if given the chance. I will say that I was impressed enough with this release that I sought out the 2022 release without hesitation; hopefully, 2022 will stand up to my expectations.

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
